APRIL 2004
The growing season is well underway. Greenhouses are great for growing plants, but unfortunately they are also great places for insects and fungus. The following guide may help in controlling some of these pests. For Western Flower Thrip use Conserve. For Aphids, use aTame / Orthene combination, Endeavor and Distance. For Whiteflies, use Marathon and Talstar. Marathon applied early in the growing cycle will reduce the Aphid and Whitefly populations. For Fungus Gnat control use Gnatrol, Distance and a quick knock down like Pyrenol. For Spider Mites, use Pylon or Flora-mite. After knock down has been achieved, we suggest using Whitmire Total Release Aerosols to maintain control of Aphids, Whiteflies and Fungus Gnats. For mildew control, use Strike, Milstop or Zero-tol. There are other products, and combinations of products, to use in controlling greenhouse pests. Remember one of the best controls is to keep the greenhouse as clean as possible. For more information please call American Clay.
Shade cloth season is here. We suggest you get your orders in as early as possible. A handful of factories produce custom shade cloths. They get very busy in April, May and June. This can cause a delay in delivery for your order. We offer a full line of woven and knitted shade cloths in a variety of colors. Other products available are; hail net, frost protection, wind break fabric, weed barriers and many more. For more information call American Clay.
As a reminder, if you plan to have special needs for poinsettia containers, like UPC coding or colors other than green or black, please get these orders in as early as possible. OS Plastics has discontinued its warehouse operation in the United States, and this may cause a significant production back-log on the remaining container manufacturers.
