Cooler weather is approaching and many nurseries will be preparing plants to overwinter. Light applications of winter fertilizer will help plants survive our tough Colorado winters. Some days during our winter can get pretty warm; this initiates watering and plant roots looking for food. 17-3-6 SCU or 18-5-10 IBDU are excellent fertilizers to use. Both will give your plants a boost when spring rolls around. We have both in stock.
Biofungicides are gaining more popularity among growers. Using Bio’s in a preventative maintained ace program is a good idea. Bio’s come in two different forms; bacteria based or fungal based. The bacterial types include Rhapsody, Companion and Actinovate SP. The fungal types include Plant Shield and Root Shield. Using these products early can reduce production costs by reducing $$$ outlays for chemical fungicides. Bio’s have little to no re-entry intervals {REI}, and are safe to use around workers. Most of these products have a stimulating growth effect on plants. They can promote more root production resulting in larger and healthier plants in the spring. Bios have little phototoxic effects and plant pathogens cannot develop any resistance to them. As a preventative, Rhapsody, Actinovate SP and Companion, work primarily on fungus above the soil. Plant Shield and Root Shield are recommended for pathogens in the soil. Early applications can reduce your spring fungicide bill. We have all the Bio’s available, just call for more information.
