The Pro-Green Trade Show held here in Denver the week of January 12th was a success. Booth numbers and traffic were down a little and attitudes were cautiously optimistic. We were busy talking about everything from grower pots to greenhouse structures.
We introduced two new items, Preda-Scent and Sure-Gard Herbicide for landscapes. They were well received.
Preda-Scent is an animal repellent applied in a capsule form. Preliminary findings have shown excellent results on Deer. We feel this is important to the Front Range because deer have caused many people to quit gardening or plant nice landscapes. Preda-Scent is also easy to apply. The water soluble capsule liner dissolves thus releasing the scent. Deer are naturally repelled by this scent. Placed in a grouping of three capsules every 4 or 5 feet makes a perimeter around the area you wish to protect. Each application lasts about three weeks with no mixing or spraying. You must reapply after a snow because the scent becomes masked under the snow.
Sure-Gard pre emergent herbicide has been around for a few years and is a very effective product. What is different is the new Sure-Gard carries a landscape label. This product can be applied to landscape beds with trees shrubs and a variety of perennials. Sure Gard has the ability to control grasses and broad leaf weeds for 6 months per application. With budget cutbacks and labor shortages products like Sure-Gard can control weeds in landscapes without much labor or maintenance. Look for our flyer and in February we will have a seminar on Sure-Gard presented by Valent Chemical to discuss the value and benefits of this new label.
