The 2009 season is well under way. We realize there is a lot of uncertainty about the economy; however, we see most of our customers as cautiously optimistic. We are convinced this spring will be strong. In times like these people go back to basics. One of these basic trends includes people staying closer to home. This results in improved landscapes. People will spend money on upgrading their yards and growing more vegetables for their own consumption, both in the ground and especially in containers. Keep in mind that around 90% of the current home owners are not in foreclosure and many of them are going to spend money within our industry.
American Clay is committing to a larger warehoused stock of organic soils. Fafard has recently released a new line of organic products called Fafard Organic Formulas or FOF soiless media. Fafard currently produces six formulas that meet the current NOP (National Organic Program) guidelines. They are available in various mix ratios with an organic fertilizer starter charge.
